Muse & Amuse

I am very opinionated and will argue a point to the nth degree. I tend to want to get to the bottom of things, so I push the envelope beyond what is expected. I can't see past my driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and I will defend him much as a mother would her son.

Katrina

What a bitch!
I believe she was spawned by the devil.

I watch the images on my TV and just cannot comprehend the widespread damages.

It is so devastating.

Bad Bee

About 5 years ago while I was at work, a bee found its way inside an open window and got under my shirt and stung me. I had a reaction to it, not allergic, just a very bad reaction. Unfortunately, I had a doctor appointment right after work. It was just a normal check-up.

Now to top it off, I was having a very bad day at work, it was full moon and I was "riding high", and the bee sting did not help matters any.

The nurse took my blood pressure twice. She then summoned the doctor who also took it twice while shaking his head. They were upset, I wasn't. My adrenalin was pumping all day and I really should have cancelled the appointment. I tried to explain what went on all day, but he wouldn't listen.

He prescribed three blood pressure pills because it was (at that particular time) very very high. Ever since then whenever I go to the doctor my BP is high. No where else is it ever that high. Not at other doctors, not at machines inside stores, and not on my machine at home. I suppose I have "white coat syndrome." My BP was always in the 140's and nothing I did would bring it down at that particular doctor's office. I still go there, but I see his son instead.

Well, yesterday I had an appointment and my BP was 126/82. WooHoo!
Finally! It was all I could do to refrain from jumping up and down.

And I have since realized why it was finally lower than usual. After three months of not working I have NO STRESS FROM THAT FREAKIN' JOB!!!

Nascar's Race To The Chase

With two races left before it is decided who will be in the top ten, things are getting fairly crazy. With the Bristol race over and done with, it's on to California. That is one of Junior's not-so-good tracks. They seem to have a problem with getting the tire situation working in their favor. I think they have the set-up figured out because he did quite well at Michigan, and that is the chassis (#12) that they are taking to California.

Before the Bristol race Junior was 158 points out of tenth place. After that race he is now only 117 out of the tenth spot. It will take a small miracle to catapult him from 15th to 10th but it is possible!

Yes, it would be neat if he could be in the top ten in points and run for the Championship, but I will not be upset if he doesn't make it. He will still have ten races left in the season where he won't have to worry about the Chase and just go out and win as many of those races as he can.

After all, there is always next year. And I do believe he will be at the top of his game next year. The possibility of being back with his cousin, Tony Eury Jr, as his Crew Chief is exciting to say the least. They have ironed out their attitude problems of last year and will be ready to deal a blow to all their competitors.
I can hardly wait!

From The Floor To The Bed...NOT!

My husband has been sleeping on the floor ever since he had his knee operated on in January. He has always liked sleeping on the floor, and it insured him that I would not kick his knee during the night.

For the past few days, he has been talking about sleeping in the bed. Fine with me. Until I thought about his alarm clock. I said "Does that mean I have to shut your alarm off in the morning?" (The alarm clock is on my side of the bed.) He said "No." And that was the end of that conversation.

Last night when he decided to sleep on the floor, I said "I thought you were going to start sleeping in bed?" He said "What about my alarm?" I said "You are going to take your clock into the bedroom and you are going to put it on your dresser. Then you are going to reset the time and the alarm. That way you will have to shut it off yourself."

So guess where he slept?
On the floor!
Can't men do anything for themselves?

Wonderful News

JR Motorsports, owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr, announced Tuesday that he owns the #88 sponsored by the U.S. Navy. It's a multi-year agreement starting next year in the Busch Series.

The driver will be Mark McFarland, currently second in the points, in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series division (also running for Junior) in the #32 WINFUEL-sponsored Chevrolet.

JR Motorsports is owned solely by Junior. He co-owns Chance2 with Teresa Earnhardt his step mother. And, of course, he is part owner of DEI (Dale Earnhardt Inc).

I couldn't be happier for him, and I wish him and his new team much success next year.

Rabbits Past And Present

Our first rabbit was actually my daughter's. She brought it home from Ag class at the end of the session. It had no name. I started calling it Peter J Rabbit even though it was a female. "Peter J" got shortened to PJ and it stuck. We kept her outside. Eventually she died of pneumonia. I needed a replacement so my husband bought a bunny from someone he worked with. She was all black and so very tiny. As she grew, three splashes of white formed a collar. We named her Shelby. She lived 6-1/2 years. She died from cancer. We didn't have her spayed. Spaying prolongs their life but we didn't know that then. Her hospital bill was quite large.

Before she passed, my father bought us a Netherland Dwarf. All white with black tips. Another female which we named Cobra. (Yes, we are a Mustang family.) My husband then built a split pen for both rabbits that was fit for royalty. Outside. Cobra lasted less than a year. We never knew exactly what happened to her but she was cremated and her ashes were spread at the local pet cemetery. We decided then to bring Shelby inside in a cage where she lived till she too passed. Her ashes are with me in a little wooden chest.

And now we have Jasper. (Named for the engines.) She is the queen of the house. Ten years old. Solid black and spayed. A Holland Lop. Very spoiled.

When she is gone there will be no more rabbits for us.

Sunday Nights

I used to dread Sunday nights. Once dinner was over and the hours ticked down I'd get rather depressed. Why? Because each hour brought me closer to having to go to work. Dreaded that too. It was a 35 minute ride. Mostly what we call "back" roads.

Winters were the worst. I hate driving in snow or ice. One of my worst accidents happened on ice. But that's another story. Anyway, the long drive was just part of it.

Don't get me wrong, I loved my job. I loved what I did. I respected the company I worked for. Everything was going fine, so I thought. A new manager brought changes. So I no longer work there. Their loss.

However, Sunday nights are now a joy! No more depression, no more dread, and I can stay up as late as I want or need to. I can sleep as late as I want or need to.

I am loving this new lease on life. Finally I have time to do the things I used to talk about doing. Granted, I am not getting things done as quickly as I'd like, but they are getting done.

Life is good! For now anyway.

The House That Will Not Sell

Okay, I am getting so frustrated that week after week this puppy isn't selling. Makes me wonder about the agent. The only "bite" we got was from an investment group and why should they make a profit off of us.

This is my parents' estate house and it must be sold. They're no longer here to fight for it. I have to make decisions in their place. I have two other siblings and we all agree that it should be sold to someone who will take care of it, and not a group that will tear it down. And build something in its place and make an even bigger profit!

Meanwhile more taxes are coming due this Fall. And that means even less for us kids. The house is the only thing left. Both nursing homes sucked everything else away.

There's a buyer out there; they just haven't seen the house yet. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Not to mention very stressful. I need a small miracle and a little luck. Two things that have eluded me in my life.

Dang Computer

Yesterday was a day from hell! I could not access the internet, my server, or my e-mail system. It took a a long while to realize that it might be my McAfee virus scan or firewall casuing the problem. So I uninstalled them. Lo and behold I could now go on line and do what I needed to do. But I didn't. First I needed to find the cause of my problem, because I did not want to be without anti-virus protection or a firewall for that matter. But where to begin...

I turned this computer every which way but upside down and I would have done that too if I thought it was going to correct my problem(s). NOTHING WORKED!!! After uninstalling/installing many times (I don't remember anymore), I took a break. When I came back after shutting down, rebooting, and starting up I thought maybe, just maybe, the problem would be solved. NOT!!! Back to square one. It kept telling me it couldn't find my server, and throwing a stupid error message at me.
So I decided to dig in to the error message. I searched every file I could till I was blue in the face, and got absolutely nowhere! It kept telling me it didn't exist. Hold it! How can something not exist when it keeps slapping me in the face?

I finally quit when my husband came home. Took a little break. But at 11:00 PM I was right back on it. After I reinstalled both programs again, I ran a virus scan and nothing was found. I then ran a sweep for spyware/adware and found nothing suspicious. As hard as it was for me to walk away, I finally decided to get some sleep around 2:00 AM.

Needless to say this is the first place I came when I got up this morning. Didn't have breakfast, didn't attend to my rabbit. THIS was important! All my digging and researching and printing off instructions for this or that got me nowhere.
So I held my breath and called my server and explained everything to him. He said it sounded like it was McAfee's software messing with me and I should call them. I couldn't access the internet for their number and I don't keep it on hand so I asked him if he had it. No. But I should uninstall the programs so I could then access the internet and find it myself. Which is what I did. But they don't like phone calls and it would be very long distance. (No 800 numbers here.) I decided to e-mail them. They were very fast in getting back to me and provided me with lots of things to do.

First I was to reinstall the programs. Then one by one I was to decide which one was giving me the problem. So I installed the virus scan first. Now, I have slow dial-up so this wasn't going at a very fast pace. Once installed it revealed not to be the problem. OK, so I install the firewall. Again, no problem. Well what the heck! So now I have both installed and am able to access the internet, use my e-mail system, and have access to my home page. BUT, I still get that freakin' error message. And I still haven't done anything different.

Well, at least if it gives me a problem again I now have instructions on how to hopefully fix it.

And, after one and a half days of sheer hell, I can now go on about my usual business.

Growing Up In New York

Oh how I miss my summers in New York! Entire summers. Every year.
My siblings and I stayed with our aunt and uncle. First it was on 80th Street in East Manhattan. Then they bought a home on Long Island. I remember Floral Park NY and Flushing NY in particular. But Manhattan was the best.

Opening fire hydrants and cooling off till the cops came. Pink rubber balls (we'd each get one every year). Sitting on the stoops at night (and everyone was friendly).
Playing on the roof of the highrise they lived in. Wonderful magical moments.

I miss Coney Island Amusement Park and those wonderful hot dogs--I believe they were Nathan's. My favorite ride was the ferris wheel when the car swung out over the ocean. When you're little it seems so much worse.

We went to Jones Beach alot. And Central Park. And the Bronx Zoo. Sweet memories. Except the time I got a "hole in my head" from a kid who was above me on the bars and put his foot on my head. He stepped down without looking. I remember that like it was just yesterday. The scar is still there.

When we were older we went to The Worlds Fair. At one time we also drove all the way out to Montauk Point just to see what it was like that far out.

Nothing today comes close to the magic of childhood so I will hold those memories very close to me.

Like my husband always says: "Your heart is in New York but your a** is in PA."

Now THAT'S what I could have used.
Why didn't I think of that before?

No, seriously people, my voodoo doll is God.
He'll take care of them in his own way in his own time.

Whoops!

Yesterday I went for the newspaper. I have to cross the street to get it. The road I live on is always busy. Like a speedway. I can never just walk across without having to contend with traffic. So when I got to the road, I stopped and looked both ways. Nothing coming. Either way. We have a traffic light to the east. When it changes to green I still have plenty time to get across. Six crotchrockets had just gotten the green light so I decided I had plenty of time. Right? Wrong! I had just stepped over the line in the middle when they flew by being barely missed by one, who then did a wheelie while going by me. I suppose he was making a statement toward me. I so badly wanted to flip him the bird but I didn't. It was Sunday, after all.

Truth Be Told

I have "phone-a-phobia." When a phone rings, I go insane.
Even in my own home. They scare me half to death. And I
have no idea when or where it started.
You have absolutely no idea how freakin' happy I am to be
away from those damn phones at work.
When I "cross over" to the other side, THERE WON'T BE ANY
PHONES and I will truly be in heaven!

Creepy Crawlers

Among the many things that give me the willies are bugs and spiders.
I went outside to water my plants and sweep the porch, leaving the inside door ajar. When I went back in and moved the inner door I saw a movement but brushed it off as a "dust bunny." But it looked like a scurrying mouse.
Thinking no further about it, I went about my daily business.
Sometime later, as I walked by, out of the corner of my eye a huge black thing scampered off a tan coat laying on the large metal milkcan we keep in the foyer. Which is the direction the "dust bunny" went. Uh oh! Now I'm in trouble, and where did it go?
So, I gathered my "battle" tools: bug spray, fly swatter, and a flash light. Did I say MY battle tools? No, they would wait until my husband came home. I went outside and sat on the porch to wait. Fifteen minutes later my knight in shining armor came home, found that darned huge spider and voila! it is gone. Gone to spider heaven. Life is good again.

Discovery Shuttle

Good news yesterday. They finally landed safely in California. Praise the Lord!
They were supposed to land the day before in Florida, but due to the bad weather there it was delayed at least a day. The landing was scary enough due to the insulating foam that had broken away at liftoff and then damaged heat-resistant tiles. So when I heard they landed and landed safely all I could say was "Thank God."

Oh What A Wicked Web We Weave

Kurt Busch is leaving Roush Racing. Good riddance. He is going to be in the #2 car for Team Penske. But not until 2007. Jack Roush said he will not release Kurt for 2006 saying that decision is indefinite due to sponsors and team consideration. At first the news was that he had signed for an unknown team. With Roush Racing and Hendrick Motorsports being the two top teams right now, I thought he went with Hendrick. Never with Penske. Well, Ryan Newman deserves him.
Jack Roush won't release him for '06. Excuse me? Isn't he the one that pre-signed McMurray a year ahead of time, thereby forcing Mark Martin to extend his retirement? Wonder if Rusty will do the same. I highly doubt it.
I know I wouldn't. So, some of the dominoes are falling into place slowly but surely. And soon we will know where Waltrip is going. Or if DEI will, in fact, have three teams next year. And if they do, what driver will they hire? Time will tell.

She Was A Friend

What happens to some people when at one time they were one of your best friends and then they turn on you for no reason?
I used to work with her. She's still there and I'm not. It's because of her that I'm no longer working.
She wrote a statement against me accusing me of doing the very same thing she is doing now and has in the past.
We used to exchange birthday and Christmas gifts. She and my husband used to exchange cigarette UPC's for gift premiums.
We used to be such close good friends. But she changed.
Why did she become so hurtful? We used to always say she could never hurt a fly. Well, she has hurt me deeply. I just don't understand it either. And I will probably never know why she did her dirty little deed.

Kittens (Part III)

There they were: all 4 orange tigers. Strays. They were frolicking in our yard last night. That's the first time I've seen all 4 for awhile. Thought we lost one. Both parents were with them. The little ones sleep on the engine in the old truck. Safe from predators.
Calli the expectant one hasn't been around for two days. Maybe she had her babies by now. Unless she only comes to eat when the others aren't around.
I wonder how many she will have and how long it will take before she shows them off to us. Cats are like that you know. Proud of their babies. Just like any good mother.

Felt lost all weekend, Sunday especially.
Watched the Busch race Saturday.
Would've been ok except Truex had huge problems.
Didn't help my cause.

Almost let them get to me.
Received a slip in my mailbox.
Certified letter.
Uh Oh!
Now what?
Why can't they let go?
I did.
Didn't want to pick it up.
Lawyer advised I'd better get it.
OK - made husband open and read.
And in the end, worried for nothing.
Only an answer to my letter to their
VP of Operations.
No problem.
