Muse & Amuse

I am very opinionated and will argue a point to the nth degree. I tend to want to get to the bottom of things, so I push the envelope beyond what is expected. I can't see past my driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and I will defend him much as a mother would her son.

I Just Don't Understand People

I understand that the media has a job to do, but when I read this in my local paper on Monday, I was irate:

Sundays' Aaron's 499 was down 14 percent from last year and nine consecutive NASCAR races on Fox have had double-digit percentage rating drops. The sport could use more drama like the crash that wiped out Carl Edwards on Sunday's last lap."

What the hell is wrong with people? Have we become such a sick society that seeing crashes like Carl's are the main reason some race fans (so-called) tune in to watch a race?

This reporter was comparing NASCAR to the NBA. First of all, that is like comparing oranges to apples, or apples to oranges, however it is said. There is no comparison between the two sports. I for one would NEVER watch basketball on TV. I repeat: NEVER.

My initial thought when I read what he wrote was to call the paper and register my complaint. But where would that get me? Nowhere. As long as we have ignorant people like that and as long as they write ignorant things like that, we will continue to have an ignorant society. I want no part of that society.

There were seven people hurt in that crash, all of them spectators. When they chose to go to that race they probably had no idea they would be a part of it. The worst injury was a broken jaw. She was damn lucky...because it could have been much more horrific than it was. The catch fence held and did its job; otherwise Carl would have landed in their laps.

What I did like after it was over was seeing Carl Edwards jogging to the finish line so that he could, in his words, finish the race. Bravo to Carl for that maneuver.

Hot?

That's all I gotta say. Can't wait for the rain to cool things off. It's too early to uncover the air conditioners. I will suffer another day and on Wednesday I will welcome the rain with open arms. Just thinking about it now refreshes me. Not.

And The Winner Is:

Congratulations to Brad Keselowski on his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win in his rookie start at Talladega today.

What an awesome finish. And having Dale Jr. finish second was icing on the cake, because finishing in the top 10 or 15 is a feat in itself at this particular track.

I couldn't ask for a better finish than that. Except, of course, if Dale Jr. would have won the race. But second in this case is fine with me.

Awesome, awesome, awesome!

I Have No Excuse

Well, yes I do have an excuse for not writing anything sooner. We have been quite busy for one thing, and nothing happened that could top that toast story.

The only thing that has happened the past ten days or so is that all the pregnant cats had their litters. And those are scattered hither and yon. We only know where one litter is and that one is tucked safely in the house my husband built for the cats which sits on our back deck. Now that cat was one smart cookie.

The only other highlight of our week is that our refrigerator arrived but not without it's own little story. I am in the middle of writing that little saga and may or may not post it.

So you just have to be patient with me because I don't post regularly. I would love to put something here every day, but I am a wee bit afraid that we are boring people. Until I try to make toast, that is. So since one never knows when I am going to do another dumb thing, you will just have to keep checking up on me. I suspect I am getting a tad lazy.

Oh yeah, we celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary this week.

Ever Have One Of Those Days?

The day started out innocently enough; it was bright and sunny after a few rainy days filled with cold and dampness. I made pancakes for my husband for breakfast. All I wanted was two pieces of toast, which I proceeded to make in my new toaster oven I got a few months ago. Toast is about the only thing I have been making in it, although I did make biscuits a time or two.

So two slices of toast it was, which I put on the rack, setting the timer as usual, I proceeded to finish my morning puzzles at the dining room table. After a bit, in the back of my mind I am thinking that the toast is taking rather long for some reason and before I had a chance to go check on it, I smelled it. Holy Hannah! Smoke was pouring out of the oven as if the entire kitchen was on fire! I jumped up, ran over to it, opened the oven door and then pulled the plug. Two blackened pieces of so-called toast innocently peeped out at me.

Meanwhile my husband, with voice raised somewhat, told me to turn the fan on at the range hood over the stove. He also opened the door to the garage where there is a huge exhaust fan in the ceiling and he turned that on. And wouldn't you know it...it wasn't long before the smoke alarm started beeping along with the key pad chirping and eventually the siren on the outside of the house chimed in. By this time, I didn't know if I should poop or go blind. Eventually I came out of my stupor and started hitting the key pad to get the damn thing to shut up at least.

And then the phone rang. It was the alarm company. My husband answered but for some reason they hung up. Now in panic mode, our next step is to try and call them back. Phone number? What phone number? We never had to call the alarm company before so I didn't have their phone number marked down anywhere. We did find it eventually, he called them, and they also wanted to know if the call to the fire company should be cancelled. Why would we need the fire company now I asked? Did they want some burned toast? Because I was only going to throw it out anyway.

Thinking the entire mess was all over with, I went back to making another two pieces of toast because I still had breakfast to take care of for myself. And that frenzy worked up my appetite. Those two pieces turned out fine. I think I may have turned the timer too far the first time. Ya think?

When my toast was finished, I slid two pieces of low fat Swiss cheese in, sprayed it with buttery spray and popped it into the microwave for 10 seconds. I took a bite and then my husband popped his head in the door and called me to come outside, that I needed to see something. There stood a man with a clipboard looking at me like I had just committed the world's worst sin. He told me that I had to take classes on how not to start fires in the home. Seriously. Yes, he was from our local fire company. However, he is a friend of my husband's but I didn't recognize him till he spoke. They had conspired to give me a little teasing about what I had done. It was then that I found out two fire companies responded to the original call. That's a good thing to know when you live in the outer fringes of nowhere.

For now things are back to normal. Except the house smells a tad funny. Toast anyone?

Spur-Of-The-Moment Post

These type posts scare even me. But here goes anyway, since I don't have anything else planned or what to write about for that matter.

I was sitting here wondering about my blog. I get decent traffic, that's no problem. Although more is better, I am fairly happy with the numbers. However, I noticed a recent decline in people leaving comments. I love comments. I thrive on comments. Every comment left goes to my mailbox, so I do get to see all of them.

I don't answer them because that has turned into somewhat of a dilemma. Do I leave the answer on my blog and perhaps risk the chance that the person it's meant for does not come back to look for one? Or do I go to their blog and leave a comment there which has nothing to do with what they wrote about on their blog ? Because I can't answer that, I decided to not answer comments on my blog. I will, however, leave comments on other blogs here and there. So for now, it's just random on my part.

The reason I welcome comments is so I know whether I am making sense in my writings. Pro or con...it doesn't matter. But when no one comments, it makes me feel like I am taking these words and throwing them up into thin air and they haphazardly fall to the ground in a jumble.

Help me out guys. Leave a comment or two now and then. Please?

**********

Easter has come and gone. I ate more than I wanted to, but the good thing about that is there aren't any eat-till-you-drop holidays coming up in the immediate future. Mothers Day in May doesn't count. Neither does Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day because we haven't done anything on those holidays for quite some years. So I guess we're good to go till Thanksgiving. And much as I hate to say it, that will be here before we know it. Sorry. It just slipped out.

When last I wrote abut the weather, it was cold and nasty and rainy. We have had some sunshine since then, but last night it dipped below freezing with more of the same in the ensuing days to come. And more rain is on its way. The daffodils are all open now and there are buds on the trees finally. Time isn't standing still. But it would be nice if the air warmed up a tad at least during the day. I get so tired of hearing me whine about these things but, hey, somebody has to do it. So why not me?

He Is Not Dead

Calvary

Jesus Christ, 33, of Nazareth, died Friday on Mount Calvary, also known as Golgotha, the place of the skull. Betrayed by his disciple Judas, Jesus was crucified by the Romans, by order of the Ruler Pontius Pilate. The causes of death were crucifixion, extreme exhaustion, severe torture, and loss of blood.

Jesus Christ, a descendant of Abraham, was a member of the house of David. He was the Son of the late Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth, and Mary, His devoted Mother. Jesus was born in a stable in the city of Bethlehem, Judea. He is survived by His mother Mary, His faithful Apostles, numerous disciples, and many other followers.

Jesus was self educated and spent most of his adult life working as a Teacher. Jesus also occasionally worked as a Medical Doctor and it is reported that he healed many patients. Up until the time of His death, Jesus was teaching and sharing the Good News, healing the sick, touching the lonely, feeding the hungry, and helping the poor.

Jesus was most noted for telling parables about His Father's Kingdom and performing miracles, such as feeding over 5,000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish, and healing a man who was born blind. On the day before His death, He held a Last Supper celebrating the Passover Feast, at which He foretold His death.

The body was quickly buried in a stone grave, which was donated by Joseph of Arimathea, a loyal friend of the family. By order of Pontius Pilate, a boulder was rolled in front of the tomb. Roman soldiers were put on guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that everyone try to live as Jesus did. Donations may be sent to anyone in need.

Easter Is Almost Here

Easter used to be a very happy day for me; however, the older one gets, the less happy it is. No, I'm not going to rain on anyone's parade. I don't mean happy in the sense that it is a joyous day for us Christians. I mean happy in that it no longer holds the joyous days of family get-togethers.

My parents are gone. My brother and his extended family live in a world of their own. My younger sister moved across country earler this year to be with her youngest daughter and family who moved there last year. California to be exact.

And no forwarding address. Was it something I said? did? Who knows.

Back in the days when we were all living within 25 miles of one another, we used to gather at my parents' table and have the traditional ham and trimmings feast. Mom would go to church in the morning (Dad was told to stay home because all he did was talk about others or poke fun at them), and then she would come home and get the sumptuous meal started.

While waiting for the meal to get finished (yes, we did help Mom with the meal), all of us would gather in the yard for an egg hunt. Or we would take the kids up the street to the fire company and let them hunt there for prizes. Yum...chocolate bunnies.

It has been quite some years since we all sat down at the table as one big happy family. It makes me sad that it will never happen again. I miss those days. Granted, they involved my first husband (who turned out to be a jerk), but they still invoke many good memories for me.

So here we are in the present. Yes, there will be a ham on my dinner table on Easter. However, there will only be two of us dining on that ham. The meal itself will not be anywhere near what my Mom laid out for us, but it will suffice. I suppose it could be worse: we could be eating hot dogs or hamburgers.

Sorry, I Couldn't Help It

When I first stumbled across this picture, I literally laughed out loud. This cat looks like my cat, Junior. And he, too, gets puzzled over things of this nature. He is the inquisitive one, more so than Dakota is. This picture not only is hilarious in my mind, but it also reminds me of how human-like cats can be. And every time I look at it, I still have to laugh.

OK, so here it is...another Monday. In April, no less. This year is flying by too fast to suit me. Sometimes I wish I could flip a switch and make everything stand still till I am ready for life to resume. But since that will never happen I have to try and keep up with it as best I can.

Two of my daffodil plants are blooming. However, there are around 12 that aren't. There are no flowers on the trees yet either. They are just starting to bud. The weather in these parts was really nice Sunday, so we are being paid back with some nasty crap making its arrival later today. Mother Nature just can't seem to get it right. We have a day or two of nice weather and then she clobbers us with nasty crap. Only the nasty crap lasts longer than the nice stuff.

If all goes well, we will have a mess of kittens within a week or two. There are at least three cats all due around the same time, and another one weeks later. Actually, we won't see them for at least 5 or 6 weeks after they are born. That's when the moms bring them around to show us and to let them eat the food I put out for them. The cats that are outside adopted us a long time ago. There isn't much I can do but see that they have food, water and shelter. They come and go as they please. I will provide for them as long as they stay and as long as I am able to. It's those darn possums that are driving me nuts.

And about that race at the Texas track on Sunday? I don't care to discuss it.

Luke 19:37-38

And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen. Saying, blessed be the king that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

What Recession?

Yeah, I might go to hell for saying that. But ya know what? Don't care.

You see, my husband and I have been very hard at work pumping the green stuff into the economy ever since the proverbial sh*t hit the fan. So nobody can say we're not doing our part.

With that said, today we are going to purchase a black refrigerator. With French doors no less. Ours still works, but it's 20 years old, bisque in color, and time to hit the road. And since all my kitchen appliances are black, well...it was time to update.

Actually, the light stopped working and since we don't know how to fix it, we decided to just replace the whole refrigerator.

(Oh darn...I missed April Fool by one day.)

And just wait till you see what our next project will be.
