Growing Up In New York

(I first posted this last August and I felt it should be revisited)

Oh how I miss my summers in New York! Entire summers. Every year.
My siblings and I stayed with our aunt and uncle. First it was on 80th Street in East Manhattan. Then they bought a home on Long Island. I remember Floral Park NY and Flushing NY in particular. But Manhattan was the best.

Opening fire hydrants and cooling off till the cops came. Pink rubber balls (we'd each get one every year). Sitting on the stoops at night (and everyone was friendly).
Playing on the roof of the highrise they lived in. Wonderful magical moments.

I miss Coney Island Amusement Park and those wonderful hot dogs--I believe they were Nathan's. My favorite ride was the Wonder Wheel when the car swung out over the ocean. When you're little it seems so much worse.

We went to Jones Beach alot. And Central Park. And the Bronx Zoo. Sweet memories. Except the time I got a "hole in my head" from a kid who was above me on the bars and put his foot on my head. He stepped down without looking. I remember that like it was just yesterday. The scar is still there.

When we were older we went to The Worlds Fair. At one time we also drove all the way out to Montauk Point just to see what it was like that far out.

Nothing today comes close to the magic of childhood so I will hold those memories very close to me.

Like my husband always says: "Your heart is in New York but your a** is in PA."

I was born in Flushing. Corona AVe. to be precise. Best pizza and italian ice. Do you watch King of Queens? Well neither do I, but in the opening they show King of Queens italian ice on Corona Ave. Brings back many memories. Central Park, Flushing Meadow Park, subways, great food, and of course ....THE YANKEES! I know they are in da Bronx and the Mets are in Queens. Screw the Mets give me a ticket on the A-train and ole Georgey I will see you in 20 mins. LOL Ahh the relaxing on the stoop. Had many many good times there. Unless you lived there I guess you just don't understand. We(you and I) do cause,(sing now)"Start spreading the news","We Are Native New Yorkers!!!!!

Pbftpbft to the Yankees! Go Mets!
Yes, I watch King of Queens. He's a Mets fan too. So you were born in NY and live in Florida. My aunt, who I lived with in NY, lives in Florida too. Inverness to be exact.

How nice! Those are great memories. The closest I've been to New York is Newark, NJ for a week of training for one company I worked for. I wasn't real impressed with Newark, but then again, I didn't get to see much as they had us in training from 8am-8pm.
Thank you for letting me know they at least mentioned Elliott once. I must have stepped away for a second when they did that. I had track pass on, so I already knew where he qual'd. It's a shame how much the press is just ignoring him now.

Great memories you have of visiting NY!! I have never been there. Amazing how things seem so different when we are kids.

I watch King of Queens sometimes and I read tiredawg's comment about the Italian Ice they are getting at the beginning of the show! Reading blogs is informative!!

I like NYC. I've been there a few times, the last was October, 2003.

I like Coney Island Amusement Park too, and Nathan's hot dogs. And Central park and, well there wasn't anything I didn't like. Even Toys R Us in Times Square.
